97th Annual Sports and Drill Display
St Edmund’s School was blessed with glorious weather on Friday the 13th of April 2012.It was the day of our Annual School Sports and the field was aglow with activity-flags fluttering, boys filled with excitement as everyone awaited the arrival of our Chief Guest, Reverend Brother P.Henriques, our Provincial of the Indian Province of the Christian Brothers.
The colourful march past began after Brother hoisted the School Flag. The boys represented the four houses-McGee, O’Brien, Roe and McCann. This was followed by the traditional handing over charge by the outgoing School Captain-Walden Mihsill to Yshua Lyngdoh- our new School Captain for the Year 2012.
The boys of KG performed a drill called-“Boys on the Block” which was enjoyed by all. Then came the 100metres race for A to F Division. Nangshan Rynga was the fastest runner of St Edmund’s for 2012 coming first in the 100 metres, followed by Ferdinand Wahlang in second place and Dabormaian Kharmawphlang in third place. “Summertime Fun” and the “Dynamic Boys” came up next enthralling the crowds with the boys from Classes 1& 2 followed by the boys of Classes 3to 6 performing together.
We had relays for the different Divisions, parents, past pupils, interschool invitational relays and also a relay from our very own teachers of St Edmund’s! The novelty items were unique with A Division walking on stilts, B Division going through a tug of war, C Division dribbling with hockey sticks, D Division playing “Survivior” and the boys from E and F division together “Dropping Hot Potatoes”!
As always the colourful drill displays from Classes 7,8,9 and 10 were captivating and well appreciated by the spectators. On the whole it was a successful and enjoyable day which had involved long strenuous hours of practice- finally confirming the best performance of all the boys together.
